As most races in the running calender have been cancelled or reduced to virtual events the club wanted to provide members with an opportunity to run competitively together and to keep up with friends and meet running buddies. By following England Athletics guidance in respect of Covid-19 we are able to organise these events,(for Example runners start the race at 10 second intervals).
The first of these events were held today with two races over 5K and 10K. The start was on Great Staughton Playing Fields and the race route headed out towards Little Staughton. After a wet and blustery Saturday the sun shone for us on Sunday with a gentle breeze giving runners perfect conditions.
In the 5K race Guy Foster crossed the line first in 20 minutes 25 seconds with Felicity Ballie in second place and first woman finisher ( 21.50) and third Richard Orrell (24.10).
Over the longer 10K race James Orrell finished in a fast 35 minutes 49 seconds. Marco Wassersleben followed him in (44.30) with Alex Mitton third, and first male under 18 ( 45.10). Alison Orrell was the first woman finisher( 45.10). Hence all members of the Orrell family achieved a podium place over the two distances.
