RUNNING
Parkrun Junior 2K
3 BRJ Juniors participated at 2 different venues:-
Cambourne – Finley Harrison secured the runners up position just outside his current Club 2K PB.
Jubilee Park – Ewan Mackie finished in 8th position ahead of Olivia Caruana.
Parkrun 5K
A total of 83 BRJ’ers were in action with returns to Bug Hunter Waters, Dunstable Downs, Ferry Meadows, Holyrood (Scotland), Hove Promenade, Irchester Country (Course Best for Sarah Taylor-Hall). Lanhydrock, Leicester Victoria, Malden Prom, Monsal Trail, Pocket (Colin Reeve missed a Club PB by 5 Secs), Soham Village College (3rd place for Simon Mayes) & Wimpole.
Jane & Tony Farrow made BRJ Venue Debuts at Portsmouth Lakeside.
A very muddy Huntingdon saw Emily Miller finish as 1st lady overall & 3 BRJ”ers completing Parkrun milestones namely Paul Treadwell (#175), Jim Greenley (275) & Phil Pearsons (525).
Finally, a belated result from 1 February where Ella Wakeley secured a 5 Sec Club 5K PB at Storey’s Field Parkrun #176 compared to her previous PB at Bug Hunter Waters #29.
Zig Zag 1 Mile to Go
Chloe Rudd, in training for the London Marathon, was the sole club entrant in the 1/2 Marathon. The course at Hinchingbrooke Country Park retained the numerous long standing large muddy & icy puddles with Chloe Rudd completing the distance in a steady 3:15:08 in 46th position.
Zig Zag Run 4 Cake
Kerry Surkitt participated in this Ferry Meadows based event. Kerry completed 5 laps totalling a distance of 25K & finishing in 1st place overall in a time of 2:33:56.
Cattle Creep 10M
Fiona Green was among the 275 finishers completing the distance in 151st position in a time of 1:37:18, a couple of minutes outside her existing Club 10M PB.
In common with a number of race events over this weekend, the hilly course was very muddy in places. For those interested, the name of this race reflects a narrow bridge on the course route where the participants pass under the Grand Union Canal.
Frostbite Friendly League (Race #5)
Race #5 of the 6 race series was intended to have been race #4 taking place back in January, however the extensive flooding in Hinchingbrooke Country Park at the time forced its cancellation.
Fortunately, race hosts Hunts AC were able to re-schedule the “missing” event but this could only be accommodated just 1 week after the previous Frostbite at Bawsey Country Park. Notwithstanding the very short notice, the good news was that BRJ fielded a good attendance thus producing the sufficient number & mix of Male / Female finishers to record team scores in both the Junior & Senior events.
The “less than good” news was that following the previous weeks Zig Zag races & the Parkrun the previous day conditions underfoot were somewhat challenging in places & so for safety reasons, Hunts AC made a slight adjustment to the usual course route dating back to 2008, but the overall race distances remained unchanged.
The full suite of results from race 5 can be found on the Frostbite Friendly League website.
