Parkrun 5K (1st January)
Very windy conditions across most of the country forced many Parkrun venues to cancel their New Year’s Day event. In this area, Ferry Meadows & Huntingdon were the among the only survivors. Annette Newton was the sole BRJ’er at Ferry Meadows. Huntingdon saw Parkrun Milestones for Nicki McMahon (#50), Mike Gullis & Karen Pye (#100), Helen Richardson (#250), Claire Ashton (#300) & Sue Yendley (#500).

Cogwell Canter New Years Eve 5K
Just 1 BRJ’er participated in this Girton based event. Of the 126 finishers, Junior Stanley Coe completed the distance in position 20 in a time of 00:24:13, just short of his existing BRJ 5K PB. Stanley secured the Gold Medal in his Age Category.

New Years Eve 10K’s

Ely New Years Eve 10K – 20 members represented the Club among the 519 finishers. The gusting headwind between 6-8K was somewhat challenging although the weather conditions were actually better than in some previous years. Jonathan Harding again led home the BRJ squad. Despite the challenging conditions, 2 BRJ’ers secured Club 10K PB’s which were:

i). Neil Whitaker (PB #3) by 21 Secs compared to 2019’s Peterborough NYE event.

ii). Cameron Taylor-Hall (PB #3) by 1 Min 2 Secs compared to March 2018’s Thorney 10K.

New member, Michael Keen, made his Club 10K Debut in an excellent time & beating his pre-race estimate by nearly 4 minutes. Amie Taylor-Hall improved on the time she set here in 2023. Annette Newton again secured the gold medal in her Age Category.

St Albans New Years Eve 10K – From the 802 finishers, Alex Mitton led home the 7 BRJ members followed, just 1 place & 3 secs behind by Paul Mitton. Kerry Surkitt was our lead lady. Despite a knee injury sustained during the race, Rachael Dent pressed on to complete the race. She is hoping this injury does not impair her training campaign for her next marathon.
