Parkrun Junior 2K
Junior BRJ’ers were in action at Cambourne & Jubilee Park:

Cambourne #146 – Finley Harrison took 3rd place overall.

Jubilee Park #299- Ethan Ward led home the other 5 BRJ’ers & the remainder of the field, missing a new Club 2K PB by just 3 secs.

Parkrun 5K
With a number of local Parkrun’s cancelled due to extensive flooding, the weekend saw BRJ returns to Bug Hunter Waters (Course Best for Claire Ashton), Catton (Course Best & Parkrun #75 for John Clark), Ganger Farm (Course Best by Jane Farrow), Highbury Fields, Holkham, Milton Country (Course Best for Junior Stanley Coe), Oxford, Rushcliffe, Sence Valley Forest & Storeys Field.

Alex Mitton took 6th place at Hove Promenade #393 in a new Club 5K PB (#6 of 2024) of 00:17:40 representing a 12 Sec margin improvement compared to Hove event #373. At Long Eaton, long distance member, John Abbey, travelled from Chablis (France) to compete in his first UK Parkrun in 4 years. John is acclimatising ahead of his race in the Peterborough Great Eastern Run 1/2 Marathon taking place on the 13th October. John’s specific aim is to secure a finish time that will qualify him to represent England in the England Athletics Masters Championships later in the year. We wish him luck!

2 BRJ’ers made Parkrun Venue Debuts, namely by Kate Ruddock at Blyth Links & Glossop by Peter Jackson.

At Huntingdon, the Summer Course was flooded so the “Trolls Bridge” multi-lap course was quickly rolled out by the Run Director. Seb Burley & Nick Harris both completed Parkrun #125 today.

Shelford 5K
Speedy Junior Jack Scott was 27th of the 234 finishers in his Club Debut 5K, securing the gold medal in his Age Category. His excellent time of 00:19:01 makes him the 9th fastest BRJ boy over the distance.

Run Sandringham 10K
In 181st position from the 1,352 finishers, Eszter Gulacy’s time of 00:48:15 was enough to earn yet another Club PB (#10 of 2024) by a 1 Min 1 Sec margin compared to May 2024’s Eye 10. Eszter also secured a bronze medal in her Age Category, just missing out on silver by 13 Secs.

Bure Valley 10M
In her Club 10M Debut, Harriet Dolby finished in 177th position of 235 in a time of 1:25:23.

Robin Hood 1/2 Marathon
The Nottingham based event saw Kevin Ryan complete the distance in position 5,084 of the 7,949 finishers in 2:11:25..

Berlin Marathon
3 BRJ’ers participated in the 50th running of this prestigious race. The inaugural Berlin Marathon took place on the 13th October 1974 with a course that was based entirely within the nearby Grunewald Forest. There were a total of j244 finishers in this 1st race, that included just 10 Women, with the overall winner completing the distance in a time of 2:44:53. It was in 1980 that the route moved into the city. By comparison, the 2024 event saw 54,062 finishers & a finish time of 2:03:17, although the course record, set back in 2022 is 2:01:09.

All 3 BRJ’ers, Nicki McMahon, Paul Treadwell & Marco Wassersleben also took part in the 2022 race, where they were joined by Annette & David Newton & Amanda Roland-Convey. Amanda, Annette & David will be travelling to Chicago shortly to compete in 13th October’s Marathon.

Despite a serious of unfortunate issues affecting their ability to train as hard as they would have liked ahead of this endurance event, Race Pacing on the day was well executed by all 3, with Marc producing a Negative Split over the second 1/2 Marathon distance by 6 Mins & Nicki by 5 Mins. Paul’s race pace was virtually even over the 2 phases.

Their finish results, including the Age / Gender Graded scores counting towards the 2024 Senior Running Championships are:

Race: Berlin Marathon    Date: 29/09/24   Nos of Finishers: 54,062
Position Name Time Age-Grade %
17085 Marco Wassersleben 03:40:48 62.14%
25647 Nicki McMahon 03:58:50 58.11%
43483 Paul Treadwell 04:53:59 52.09%
