MULTI-SPORTS

European Triathlon Age Group Championships
The event, which represented a qualifier for the World Championship later in the year, took place in Vichy, Central France with Gilles Corby representing both BRJ & France in the M60-64 Age Group in the Sprint distance race. The swim took place in the Allier River & the bike route consisted of 3 laps of the local villages.

Close to the finish line, Gilles experienced an issue with his Hamstring so lost 1 place in the final stages to finish in 19th position from 46 in a total time of 1:11:55 qualifying for the World Champs. Given the medical concerns, Gilles opted not to compete in the next day’s Standard distance race so as to concentrate on the Sprint in the finals. His individual race stats in the Sprint were:-

Swim      (750M) – 00:14:20
T1            00:2:30
Bike         (20K) – 00:31:06
T2            00:01:10
Run         (5K) – 00:22:46

Ironman Triathlon (Wales)
Paul Fullalove successfully beat the 17 hour target & officially became an IRONMAN at Tenby. The sea swim started on North Beach & comprised 2 laps. The bike phase, undertaken in very poor weather conditions, was staged over 2 laps of the scenic countryside of the Pembroke Coast National Path, that included 2 ascents of the notorious Saundersfoot “Heartbreak Hill” which was then followed by an equally tough 4 lap Marathon run.

With the course & weather conditions there were a significant number of DNF’s but Paul overcame all of these challenges to finish in position 1,509 / 2,165 in a total time of 16:08:17. His individual race stats were:

Swim        (2.4M) – 1:22:23
T1             – 00:24:38
Bike          (112M) – 7:50:28
T2             – 00:14:08
Run           (26.2M) – 6:16:40
