RUNNING
Parkrun Junior 2K
BRJ’ers made returns to Jubilee Park & West End. At Jubilee Park, George Jenner finished in 4th place & was supported by Alexander Eason & Amelie Alexander-Cahill.
At West End, Isaac Friswell, in his 25th Parkrun, took 1st place in a Course Best time which was just 1 Sec shy of his existing Club 2K PB.
Parkrun 5K
BRJ’ers made returns to Conwy, Fulbourn Hospital, Kettering, March, Market Bosworth Country Park, Pocket & Rushcliffe. At Bug Hunter Waters,, Robin Cooper was the unluckiest BRJ’er by virtue of finishing in a time that exactly matched his existing Club 5K PB (00:21:32). Perhaps he should dip at the finish line next time!
At Huntingdon, Seb Burley took the runners-up spot in a time of 00:19:04 that represented a new Club 5K PB by a 13 Sec margin since June’s Chichester Parkrun. This was PB #2 of 2024. Junior Jack Hutchinson secured a Course Best, whilst Amelie Alexander-Cahill made her Club 5K Debut.
3 Club members achieved Parkrun milestones, namely Ian Wibberley (#25), Jane Ainscow (150) & Phil Pearsons with 500. Former member, Pat Jackson, also completed 500 runs.
Doug Anderson 5K
This is a long standing race staged by Bedford Harriers in honour of a former member. Paul Treadwell was the sole BRJ’er among the 389 finishers, completing the course in 188th position in a time of 00:25:11.
Durham City Running Festival 5K
William Dales made a return visit to this 5K event, although the course had changed slightly from 2023 as it included a step incline in the early stages. Of the 685 finishers, Will completed the course in 6th position in time of 00:17:40, some 14 places & 1 Min 24 Secs better than his result in the 2023 race.
Eye Charity 5M
This race was the “Nominated” event in the 2024 BRJ Senior Running Championships alongside the Cambs AAA Road Racing League Competition & Cambs County 5M Champs. Scroll down to the separate section concerning the 2 Non-BRJ competitions.
The race coincided with the hottest day of the year so far & a number of participants encountered varying degrees of heat stress type symptoms. Unfortunately, this included our own Richard Braddick, but despite his difficulties Richard still completed the race to secure his Club Debut 5M, but accepted first aid assistance once finished.
There were 150 finishers in total and from the 14 BRJ’ers there were 2 new Club 5M PB’ers, 9 making a Club Debut over the distance & 6 members securing Age Category Podium places. Mike Gullis was the only member not to fall within any of these categories. Perhaps wearing Bib #666 may have been a factor!
Our 2 PB’ers were:-
Felicity Baillie – Improved by 4 Mins 10 Secs compared with her result from May 2019’s Huntingdon Charity 5M. This was Club PB #2 for 2024 & it makes her our 6th fastest Senior Woman over the distance.
Adam D’Souza – By 1 Min 30 Secs compared with the result from May 2024’s Blisworth 5M. This was his 12th Club PB in 2024 & it keeps him in in a good position to become the Senior Men’s winner of the Club “Most Road Running PB’s” competition that is currently being lead by Robin Cooper with 13 PB’s.
