Parkrun Junior 2K
3 BRJ Juniors, Keira Coverdale, her brother Rhys & Alexander Eason were in action at Jubilee Park. Keira, finishing in 7th place & 1 place ahead of Rhys, secured a new Club 2K PB (#4 of 2024) by a significant 1 Min 22 Sec margin.
Parkrun 5K
BRJ’ers returned to Exmouth, Ferry Meadows, Harwich, Holkham, Jesmond Dene (Course PB for Dan Ainscow), Krakow (Poland), Linford Woods, North Walsham, Thornham Walks, University of Northampton & Wimpole (Course PB for Nick Harris).
4 Members secured new Club 5K PB’s this week, namely, Douglas Rowan at Hastings High School by 26 Secs (#4 of 2024), Simon Mayes at Storeys Field by 6 Secs (PB #3) & at Irchester Country, both Debra & Neil Parker by 25 Secs.
BRJ’ers made Venue Debuts at Millhouses (Kate Ruddock) & mid-week at Delft (The Netherlands) by Alice Noyes on the occasion of the countries National Day.
At Huntingdon, Parkrunners & Volunteers were asked to compete in yellow as a mark of respect to celebrate the all too short life of the late Anne Kirk, a keen Parkrunner & a member of Ramsey Runners.
3 BRJ’ers, Will Dales, Joe Harding & Alex Mitton finished within the top 9. New member Robin Cooper, achieved a new Club 5K PB by an 18 Sec margin..
Weather permitting, the “Summer” cpurse will be used next weekend.
Northampton 5K & 10K
5K – Felicity Baillie had a great run to finish in 8th place overall & as lead Women of the 143 finishers. Her finish time, just shy of her existing Club 5K PB of 00:19:13, was 00:20:02.
10K – New member, Christine Irvine, made her Club Debut among the 919 finishers & completing the course in 416th position in 00:54:18.
Edinburgh Marathon
In her Debut Run in a BRJ vest, Karen Childerley became the 118th Woman to join the BRJ Marathon Club by virtue of her successful completion of the undulating Edinburgh Marathon.
As with the remainder of the country on that day, the participants faced pouring rain & windy conditions. This was her 32nd Marathon overall, but her 3rd fastest, no doubt helped in some part by the BRJ Track & Strength & Conditioning sessions. Of the 9,966 finishers, Karen completed the course in position 5,143 in a time of 4:19:42. An Age / Gender Graded score of 58.55% counts towards the 2024 Senior Running Champs.
BIKING
Ride London Essex 100M Sportive
2 BRJ’ers, Paul Fullalove & Paul Treadwell were amongst the thousands setting off in waves to tackle this annual 100 mile event, albeit the route officially measured 103.4 Miles.
The closed roads course, which had an overall elevation gain of 4,190 feet, started in Victoria Embankment heading due East & then North Eastwards until the Olympic Stadium & then following a figure of 8, climaxing at halfway near Gt Dunmow before heading back to the finish at Tower Bridge. Despite the mixed weather conditions, some traffic congestion & a puncture for Paul Fullalove, their respective finish times were:
Paul Fullalove – 5:47:02 (Average of 16.55 MPH)
Paul Treadwell – 7:18:42 (Average of 11.91 MPH)
