Parkrun Junior 2K
BRJ Juniors were in action at Cambourne & Jubilee Park. At Cambourne, Jack Hutchinson secured the runners-up position in a new Club 2K PB by 21 Sec margin over the time he set at Cambourne in June 2023. At Jubilee Park, the 3 BRJ’ers were led home by Ethan Ward in 2nd position .

Parkrun 5K
Huntingdon Parkrun was the only local event that was cancelled due to further flooding. BRJ’ers made return visits to Abbey Park (Karen James completed Parkrun #75), Brixworth Country, Buckingham, Bury Field, Caffarella, (Rome Italy), Clare Castle, Corby, Dunstable Downs, March, Sandringham, Soham Village College (1st Female for Felicity Baillie), St Albans, Storeys Field, Tokoinranta (Helsinki, Finland) & Tyne Green.

Debden 10K
Wet & gusting windy conditions greeted the 92 finishers tackling a lapped course based at the former RAF Debden. Richard Braddick, who seems to be finally getting back to good form following an extended period of injury, led home the 3 BRJ’ers in a time that fell just 34 Secs shy of his current Club 10K PB. Richard was closely followed by Kerry Surkitt. Our star performer was Rachael Dent who secured a new Club 10K PB (#2 of 2024) by a 60 Sec margin compared to May 2023’s Eye 10K. Kerry & Richard both secured Age Category podium places. The full suite of results were:

MK Running Festival 20M
Following a period of injury, David Newton participated in this event as part of a delayed training programme ahead of October’s Chicago & then November’s New York Marathons. Of the 901 finishers, David completed the distance in 500th position in time of 3:02:21. David secured the gold medal in his Age Category,

Rome Marathon
John Clark became the first BRJ’er to successfully complete a Full Marathon in 2024. The venue was Rome with the race starting adjacent to the Imperial Forums & following a route passing many of Rome’s historic landmarks such as St Peters Basillica & the Spanish Steps. The competitors pass the Colosseum just before entering the finish area back at the Imperial Forums. Of the 15,185 finishers, John completed the distance in position 3,027 in a time of 3:58:07 & just 37 Secs shy of his existing Club Marathon PB set in April 2023’s Brighton Marathon.

 

The rules of the Senior Running Champs allow 1 Full Marathon to count towards the 4 events needed to qualify for a finish position in the competition. John’s Age / Gender score for this race was 56.16%.
