Alexander Eason was again the only BRJ’er  in action at Jubilee Park.

Cambridge 1/2 Marathon

Thankfully the weather gods were very kind to the 13,005 finishers, but pre-race they still had to endure a cold wait until their wave starts & before that very soggy conditions underfoot in the assembly area. However, it was a very successful day for the 29 BRJ’ers which saw 6 members making Club 1/2 Marathon Debuts & 5 others achieving new Club 1/2 Marathon PB’s.

These PB’ers were:-
Simon Pascoe by 5 Mins 9 Secs compared to December 23’s Winter MK
Jim Greenley by 4 Mins 21 Secs compared to April 23’s London Landmarks (PB #2 of 2024)
Adam D’Souza by 2 Mins 46 Secs compared to February 24’s Blicking 1/2 (PB #5)
Ian Percy by 2 Mins 45 Secs compared to November 23’s St Neots (PB #3)
Aaron Ball by 4 Secs since October 23’s GER (PB #2 of 2024)

Sadly, not all of  our members completing the race were shown in the official results as being BRJ members. If you are not mentioned in the full suite of BRJ results below please let Mike Gullis know ASAP  so he can adjust his Club Records

Lulworth Cove 1/2 Marathon
A late result from 24th February where Ian & Ruth Lasseter successfully completed this notoriously tough half marathon. The event starts just north of Lulworth Cove heading west until reaching Upton. The course heads south towards the coast then heads east towards Lulworth Cove via Durdle Door. A slight journey north reached the finish line, an overall ascent of 631 Metres or 2,070 Feet in “old money”.

Conditions underfoot were difficult with widespread flooding, areas of thick mud & akin to the BRJ Frostbite course. On a couple of occasions Ian nearly lost his running shoes. The finish time of the overall winner in 2024 was 1:48 compared to 1:35 in 2023 which shows how the “elite” end of the race suffered..

Unsurprisingly, a number of the starters failed to complete the course with just 300 finishing. Ian ‘s time was 2:18:50, some 3 Mins slower than in 2023 & in position 41. Ruth was using the event as her Club Debut over the distance finishing in 3:26:59 in position 221. On balance, Ruth could potentially have selected a much less tough venue for her 1/2 Marathon debut, but the scenery must have made up for it plus they were both using the event to raise funds for the Cleft Lip & Palate Association.
