Cambs AAA Road Race League 2023 Competition
The finish positions the 2023 Cambs Road Race League have been published. Alison Orrell has been announced as the winner of the W55+ Category with 37 points, just 3 points ahead of Runner-Up Annette Newton. The BRJ Senior Women secured 3rd in the Team Competition the Men 6th..
RUNNING
Parkrun Junior 2K
BRJ Juniors were in action at Cambridge & Jubilee Park.
Cambridge -Jack Scott secured the runners-Up position, just shy of his current Club 2K PB.
Jubilee Park – Alexander Eason, a very regular attendee at this Parkrun, ran well to secure a top 10 finish.
Parkrun 5K
A result from the completion of “Any” Parkrun 5K held on the 11th November qualified as the “Nominated” event for November in the 2023 Senior Running Championships. There was significant number of BRJ participants meaning that the calculation of all the Age / Gender Graded scores will take the Champs Manager, Mike Gullis, some time to compile. Therefore, the following is just a summary & the full list will be posted as part of the next BRJ Club Report.
As a reminder, the final “Nominated” Senior Champs event for 2023 is the Ely New Years Eve 10K.
There were BRJ returns to Bury St Edmunds, Castle Park, Ferry Meadows, March, Pocket (Parkrun #425 for Marco Wassersleben), St Albans & University Parks. At Storey’s Field, Mark Sampson secured a Course PB & Richard Orrell completed Parkrun #275. Finally at Wimpole, both Juniors Sophie & Stanley Coe also secured Course PB’s.
Gareth Thomas was the sole BRJ’er making a Venue Debut which was at Exmouth.
At Huntingdon, there were no Club 5K PB’s, but new member, Slawomir Diazmaga still drying out from the previous weekends Bushfield Frostbite, completed his Debut Club 5K in 9th position. Douglas Rowan also made his Cub 5K Debut. Finally, Ian Lasseter completed Parkrun #250.
Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park 5K
Our Women’s Captain, Felicity Baillie, returned to this flat & fast event as part of her build-up for the St Neots Half Marathon. Her training is obviously proceeding well as she finished in 10th position of 142 a time of 00:19:17 & just 5 Secs shy of setting a new Club 5K PB. Felicity was also an Age Category winner.
Alton Towers 10K
Richard Braddick made a return to Alton Towers but noted the course has been revised for 2023 & includes more inclines. Despite these additional challenges, Richard completed the distance in position 383 from the 3,213 finishers in a time of 00:48:08, some 46 Secs quicker than his time in 2022.
Remembrance Run 10K
This annual event was staged at Carver Barracks, formally known as RAF Debden. Sam Hathaway was the sole BRJ’er amongst the 162 finishers in 18th position in 00:43:24. Sam secured gold medal position in the U20 Age Group.
Rutland Water Night 10K
The event includes 2 separate night runs on either the Friday or Saturday. Sue Yendley & Belinda Parker were among the 439 finishers in the Friday race. Sue finished in position 193 in exactly 60 Mins & Belinda in position 239 in 1:01:38.
MULTI-SPORTS
Hillingdon Tri Club – Autumn Family Duathlon
Brothers Henry & Jack Reeve were in action at Hillingdon. Jack completed the Tristar 2 event fn 17th position from 19 in a time of 00:30:57.
Henry competed in the Adult Sprint finishing in position 6 / 11 in a time of 00:35:54.
