RUNNING

Junior Parkrun 2K
4 Junior BRJ’ers were in action at Jubilee Park. Mason Rogers, finished in 5th place & just 1 place behind Iris Purser. Mason, Elishka Bennett & George Jenner all made their Club 2K Debuts.

Parkrun 5K
BRJ’ers made returns to Ashton Court, Itchen Valley (Course PB for Tony Farrow), Kuchenholz (Leipzig, Germany), Letchworth (Course PB for Nicola Sparkes), Llanhydrock, Pocket, Preston Park, Sheringham, Storey’s Field (Debut Club 5K for Aaron Ball), Wimbledon Common, Wimpole & Zielelweise (Halle, Germany). At Erddig, Adam D’Souza secured a new Club 5K PB by 34 Secs (#2 of 2023).

Mark Jackman made a BRJ Debut at Black Coombe. This venue is unique as it is one of very few “Closed Courses” as this is located within the grounds of HMP Haverigg in Cumbria.

At a sunny Huntingdon, there were new Club 5K PB’s for Junior Bailey Pendlebury by 2 Mins 47 Secs (#5 of 2023) & Matthew Pendlebury by 46 Secs (#3 of 2023). Other achievers were Andrew Stevenson with a Course PB, Gillian Brown in her Club 5K Debut & John Clark completing Parkrun #50.

Unluckiest BRJ’ers were Darren Butler & Jim Greenley, who completed the Berlin Marathon just 7 days earlier, were both just 2 Secs shy of their current Club 5K PB’s.

Sandringham 10K (Result Update)
In addition to Michelle Caspersz, it has been reported that Joanna Watts, in her Debut Club 10K, completed this event in position 710 in a time of 1:00:19.

Vitality London 10K
A late result from 24th September in which Anna & Clive Best were among the 12,059 finishers. The runners congregate in Green Park & start in Waves in The Mall over a course passing iconic landmarks such as the Houses of Parliament & St Paul’s Cathedral.

Unfortunately, delays within the postal service meant that a large number of Race Numbers were not delivered to the participants in time so the organisers set up a service to provide replacement race numbers on Race Day, As the event was chip timed & each replacement number had to be individually programmed there were the inevitable long delays. As the race start time could not be altered, many individuals did not get an opportunity to run. Hopefully, things will be better next year.

Luckily both Anna & Clive did receive their Bibs with Anna finishing in position 9.402 in 1:07:51. Sadly, Clive was moving well until a very nasty fall at 9K. Despite his injuries, he completed the distance in position 11,623 in 1:25:08. A trip to the Medical Team saw Clive’s cut head & bruised Ribs treated.

West Pinchbeck 10K
Following on from a recent great run of form, Mark Sampson secured 1st place overall ahead of the other 271 competitors in a tight battle & finishing just 1 second ahead of the runner-up.

Mark’s chip time (00:34:26.7) when rounded up meant that he exactly matched his existing Club 10K PB set at the Eye in May 2023. So unlucky to miss out on a PB by just 200’ths of a second!
