Eye Charity 5M
The event featured as the “Nominated” event for July in the 2023 Senior Running Champs. BRJ’ers were in fine form taking 1st place (Mark Sampson), 2nd place (Keelan Duffy) & 7th place (William Dales).

Mark Sampson, with a recent 3rd place in the Fen Gallop 10K was the overall winner in what was his Debut Club 5M. His quick time of 00:27:44 (PB #4 of 2023) places him as 3rd fastest BRJ Senior Man over the distance, but still some 1 Min & 1 Sec shy of the time set by 2nd placed BRJ Legend, Pete Galpin.

Keelan Duffy was outpaced in the final stages by Mark but still achieved a significant Club PB by a 5 Min 40 Sec margin over his previous Club 5M best set at Huntingdon back in May 2019. Keelan’s 5th Running PB of 2023 puts him as joint leader of the “2023 Most Running PB’s Competition” for Senior Men alongside Coach Paul Mitton & Andrew Stevenson.

Will Dales took 7th position in a time that represented a new Club 5M PB by 1 Min 35 Secs compared to his Huntingdon time of May 2017. David Spurle also made his Club 5M Debut.

Our 9 athletes of the 131 finishers were rewarded with a bottle of Beer for their efforts. The next “Nominated” event in the Senior Champs takes place on Wednesday 9th August at the Peterborough Grand Prix 5K at Ferry Meadows.

Centurion Metric Tri
Having unwittingly overlooking a result for Simon Moore in one of the Tri events that took place last weekend at Box End (Bedford), I have subsequently been provided with a most interesting race report, as follows:-

Before the start, something went “ping” with Simon’s front skewer and it’s wouldn’t fully tighten. He decided to give the bike leg a try…. He was out of the water in 3rd position but then after 3K in the bike phase the nut from the front skewer popped off & for the rest of the ride the skewer was going in and out of the front wheel, sadly resulting in Simon somersaulting over the handlebars resulting in grazes to his shoulder and arm. Thankfully the bike was unharmed! Then a descent with one leg unclipped using his foot to push the skewer back in place. He came in from the bike leg in 7th place (though first road bike) carrying his bike with the front wheel hanging off. Then came the challenging entirely grass based 20K run of 4 laps with some inclines. He managed to overtake 2 people and came in an incredible 5th place overall. An amazing result though completely crazy.

After all that drama, Simon’s finished in 5th position from the 23 finishers in a time of 5:02:57 & 2nd in his Age Category. His individual phase stats were:-
Swim (2.2K ) – 00:44:07
T1 – 00:03:08
Bike (77K) – 2:34:24
T2 – 00:01:00
Run (20K) – 1:40:17
