Parkrun Junior 2K
3 BRJ’ers participated at Jubilee Park where Iris Purser was again the leading athlete & securing her 7th Club PB of 2023, this time by a 9 Sec margin. Iris is the current leader in the Junior Girls “Most Running PB’s of 2023” Competition, ahead of 2nd placed Hannah Lasseter. Hannah took 8th position earning a 39 Sec Club PB, #3 of 2023.
Parkrun 5K
BRJ’ers returned to Coldham’s Common, Dunstable Downs (Course PB for Mark Jackman), Lincoln, March, Millenium Country (2nd place for Felicity Baillie), Milton Country, Sandringham, Watermeadows & Woodhouse Moor (Keelan Duffy was Runner-Up).
The weekend saw 2 Club Parkrun Venue Debuts. where Karen James & Gerry Pye completed at Sunshine Beacjh (Kyoto, Japan) &, as a warm-up ahead of the Edinburgh Marathon, Kerry Surkitt competed at Auldcathie District.
At Huntingdon, 2 in-form BRJ’ers secured new Club 5K PB’s. Ian Percy achieved a 27 Sec improvement representing PB #3 0f 2023, whilst Rachael Dent bettered her Club 5K PB by a 40 Sec Margin.This was Rachael’s 8th PB in 2023 & is the current leader in the Senior Women’s Most PB’s Competition ahead of Felicity Baillie with 3 PB’s.
Mica Covell, Matthew Pendlebury & Junior Lia McMahon all made their Club 5K Debuts. Finally, Alison Orrell completed Parkrun #250.
Holt 10K
Richard Orrell was the sole BRJ’er completing the race in position 123 of the 400 finishers in a time of 00:48:54.
Edinburgh Marathon
5 weeks after participating in the London Marathon & just 7 days after completing a 52 mile trail race, Kerry Surkitt was among the 7,136 finishes in Edinburgh. Kerry had already decided she was not “going for a specific time” but just run a steady race. Kerry finished in position 2.677 in a time of 4:01:12, which was over 4 minutes quicker than her run in London. A score of 63.83% counted towards the Senior Running Championships.
Saxon Challenge (52.4 Miles)
Our long distance specialist, Kerry Surkitt, had planned to return to Kent’s Herne Bay to participate in the Saxon 100 Mile Trail event, but with the Edinburgh Marathon the following week she wisely decided to opt for the 52.4 Mile distance. Of the 14 finishers, Kerry completed the distance in 4th position in a time of 12:29:05.
UK Ultra South Downs Trail 100K
In warm conditions & over a very tough chalky terrain (95% Trail & 5% Road), Tom Brand completed the 100K (62.5 Miles) Run over the South Downs. Distance options of 20 Miles, 50K & 100 Miles were also available. The 100K started at Arundel Football Club & after ascents of nearly 8,500 ft & 8,200 ft of descents terminated in Eastbourne. Having actually completed a total of 64.1 Miles, Tom successfully finished the course in 16 Hrs 57 Mins 43 Secs & with only 2 blisters!

East Essex Junior Tri
Henry Reeve was in action at Basildon in the Open Event which attracted 15 participants. Henry was 6th in a time of 00:36:31
Darley Moor Junior Duathlon
Jack Reeve took part in the Tristar 2 event. Of the 34 finishers, Jack completed the 2 Run & Bike phases in position 31 in a total time of 00:23:09
CYCLING
Ride Essex-London 100 Mile
2 BRJ’ers successfully completed the event in good weather conditions. Camilla Rhead got round in a time of 5:34:47 & Sue Ray in 6:23:13.
