With numerous Juniors participating in the Eye 3K, Alexander Eason was the sole BRJ’er participating in a Junior 2K, again at Jubilee Park.
Parkrun 5K
BRJ’ers returned to Amager Strandpark (Copenhagen, Denmark), Chasewater, Cheltenham, Ferry Meadows (Course PB’s for both Donna & Neil Whitaker + Neil completed Parkrun #150), Fulbourn Hospital, Holkham, Kettering, Mildenhall Hub, Milton Country Park, Salcey Forest & Woodhouse Moor.
Stuart Turner was the sole BRJ’er to make a Club Venue Debut, this time at Oriam (Scotland).
At Huntingdon, Will Dales secured the runners-up position.
Eye 3K & 10K
There was a great attendance by both BRJ Junior & Senior events which was welcome as both the 3K & 10K formed part of the 2023 Junior & Senior Running Championships thus counting towards the 4 events necessary to secure a Championship finish position.
Sadly, the Flypast by a Spitfire of the RAF’s Memorial Flight that had been planned for 11:54 was delayed due to poor weather & finally arrived over 1 hour later, some time after most runners had completed the race.
For 2023, the 10K course was revised to avoid the initial congested loop of the housing estate immediately after the start & also at the 7K stage due to construction work in the quarry. Hopefully, both of these changes will be adopted for all future events.
Junior 3K – With 8 athletes, BRJ had the best Junior turnout for many years among the 155 finishers. Henry Reeve secured a top 10 finish & a 3 Min 24 Sec Club PB when compared to his time in the 2022 event. Next home, Tom Sheldon missed out on a new Club PB by just 4 Secs. Of the remaining 6 athletes, all but Jack Reeve made their Club 3K debut.
