Brighton Marathon
The new course, introduced since the London Marathon Company took over the organisation of the event last year, saw performance successes for all 3 BRJ participants. Although the route changed, it still included hilly elements & the enemy of all Marathon runners, strong wind, were much in evidence.
Both the 2 newly appointed Club Captains, Felicity Baillie & Paul Mitton were joined by John Clark & were among the 8,466 finishers. Paul was the lead BRJ’er & although suffering from a niggling injury over the final 10K, still pressed home to finish with a 4 Min 34 Sec Club PB (#5 of 2023) based on the time he set back in October 2022 in Chelmsford. His new time should qualify him for a GFA selection at the 2024 London Marathon.
Felicity Baillie, having secured a Club 20M PB just 7 days before, had the added stress of having to travel to Brighton very early on race morning & collect her race number from the Mitton’s. Hardly, the best prep for any Marathon. Despite this, she secured a Club PB (#4 of 2023) by 3 Mins 12 Secs since her rain soaked run in Malaga in December 2022. Felicity is the 4th fastest BRJ woman over the Marathon distance & will be participating shortly in the Manchester Marathon on 16th April.
Last, but not least, John Clark dipped at the finish line to secure himself a 2 Sec Club PB compared to his run in 2019’s Manchester Marathon.
The results include the Age Graded scores counting towards the 2023 Club Championships.
