Frostbite Friendly League (Race 5 of 6)
Race 5 of the 2022 / 2023 series was not, as has been the case for very many years, staged at Bourne Woods. This news would have been received with mixed emotions by some members, but it comes as a result of a decision by the trust owning the Woods. Thankfully, Ramsey Runners stepped up to stage an event. This venue was last used back in 2011 although a route diversion was necessitated by the new five-a-side pitches, meaning that the lap of the sports field took place at the end of the race, rather than near the start.

Pre-race, a stiff cold wind was in evidence that primarily affected the Junior race, but for the Senior Race the wind strength had subsided and the sun broke through thus rendering those runners that were wearing multiple layers somewhat overheated. A total of 108 Juniors & 393 Seniors completed the courses.

Race 6, the final event of the 2022 / 2023 Frostbite season is with us already. This is BRJ Run & Tri’s home fixture & taking place at Huntingdon’s Jubilee Park on Sunday 12th March. As this is our own event, we are hoping for maximum turnout by Junior & Seniors. To fill the myriad of volunteer roles necessary to manage a safe & successful event, Claire Few will shortly be trawling the membership. There are various volunteer roles available that will enable for you to volunteer & run. Non-members are also very welcomed to volunteer as this may free up the club member to represent the club.

The full set of results from Race 5 can be found on the Frostbite Friendly League website.

JUNIOR
Our squad numbered 5 Juniors (2 Boys & 3 Girls) thus again just meeting the minimum number to qualify for a team score.

Our first home today was Henry Reeve in 19th position very closely followed by Katie Lasseter in 32nd (4th Girl) & who had competed in the County School’s XC Champs the previous day. Tom Sheldon finished in 49th position (the same position as in 2 previous races), Emily Marshall-Roberts in 97th & Eliza Woodcock in 99th.

The squad’s efforts secured 8th place of the 14 teams earning 7 League points. Following the conclusion of Race 5, BRJ has a total of 37 League Points & sit in 8th position overall. All 5 Juniors were team scorers & made Venue Debuts.

Our squad numbered 22 (14 Men & 8 Women) the same total as at January’s Frostbite in March. First home today was Mark Sampson in 10th position. His finish time places him as 2nd fastest BRJ Man at this venue. Our leading Women today being Ruth Foster in 191st.
