RUNNING

Parkrun Junior 2K
With the majority of BRJ Juniors participating in the local Frostbite event, Ethan & Amelie Ward were representing the Club at Jubilee Park. Ethan took the overall win just 2 Secs shy of his current Club 2K PB.

Parkrun 5K
There were BRJ returns to Dalby Forest, Fell Foot, Hogmoor Inclosure, Oak Hill, Preston Park, Princess Liverpool, Storeys Field (Course PB for Alison Orrell), Whittlesey, Wimpole & Woodhouse Moor. No Club PB’s were secured at these venues.

New member Jason Cortes, made a BRJ debut at Burnham-on-Crouch running 00:23:52 & securing a 33 Sec Club 5k PB.

At Huntingdon, Susana Gago-Cortes secured a new Club PB by 2 Mins 15 Secs (PB #2 of 2022), whilst Junior Jack Hutchinson & Senior Nick Harris made their Club 5K Debuts.

Chester Metric Marathon
A late result from 2 October which saw David Spurle successfully complete the 26.2K Metric Marathon course in a time of 2:18:58 finishing in position 158 of the 835 finishers.

Royal Parks 1/2 Marathon
Just 7 days after smashing her Debut Marathon at London, Sue Ray joined 12,059 other competitors to finish this scenic London based 1/2 Marathon in a time of 2:01:59 in position 5,328.

Chicago (USA) Marathon
Another successful participant in last week’s London Marathon, Belinda Parker, successfully completed the Chicago Marathon, alongside husband John, a former Club member. Belinda finished in a time of 5:20:48 finishing in position 31,335 of the 38,409 finishers. Belinda’s time equated to an Age Graded Score of 46.27% that counts towards the Senior Running Championships.

Frostbite Friendly League (Race 1 of 6)

Race 1 in the 6 race series, hosted by Hunts AC, took place at a sunny & dry Hinchingbrooke Country Park, instead of the usual wet & muddy season opener at St Neots. A total of 135 Juniors participated in the 1.5 Mile race with 413 Seniors in the 5 Miler. Race 2 takes place on the 6th November at Ferry Meadows, Peterborough hosted by Bushfield Joggers.

JUNIOR
The event was the “Nominated” event for October in the 2022 Junior Running Championships. The BRJ squad for Race 1 comprised 13 Juniors (5 Boys & 8 Girls) which thankfully was a significant increase on the average attendance last year. It is hoped that even more Juniors will participate in this fun event at future races in the 2022/2023 season. The squad finished in 5th position of the 14 teams with 10 League points. The 5 scorers today were Henry Reeve, Katie Lasseter, Iris Purser, Christopher Scott & Tom Sheldon. As listed below, this race saw 4 Venue PB’s & 8 Venue debuts.

The BRJ squad for Race 1 comprised 29 Seniors (16 Men & 13 Women) finishing in 8th position of the 16 teams with 10 League points. The 10 scorers today were Seb Burley, Jonathan Harding, Sam Hathaway, Stuart Hathaway, Heledd Marshall-Roberts, Nicki McMahon, Alison Orrell, Thomas Powell, Andrew Skea & Neil Whitaker. Tour de Tirol (Austria)
After an extended period of injury, it was great to hear that Alex Howard had just successfully completed the gruelling Tour de Tirol. The race distance of 75K including an overall ascent of 3,500 Meters & spread over 3 days & based around courses in the Kaiser Mountain range. The race distances on each of the 3 days were 10K, 42K & 23K.

A British participant was the overall winner from the 168 finishers. Alex was 162nd / 3rd Brit in a total running time of 12:00:41. His individual race times were:-

Race 1 (10K / 300m ascent) – 1:02:25
Race 2 (42K / 1,829 ascent) – 6:56:01
Race 3 (23K / 1,1250M scent) – 4:02:12

Cambs AAA Road Running League 2022
Results for this competition have been updated to reflect the Sawtry 10M. The final league event in the shortened 2022 competition is the Fenland 10M takING place on the 30th October. This event is also the “Nominated” event for October in the BRJ Senior Running Champs.
