PARKRUN JUNIOR 2K
2 BRJ’ers were in action at Jubilee Park where Ella Whitfield made her Club 2K Debut on what was her 25th Parkrun. Alexander Eason secured a 1 Min 29 Sec Club PB, his 2nd of 2022.
PARKRUN 5K –
On Great North Run weekend, it was unsurprising that many BRJ’ers participated in events north of Watford, making returns to Brandon Country Park, Brixworth Country, Darlington South Park, Durham, Harrogate, Jesmond Dene, Leazes, Pocket, Salcey Forest, Storeys Field & Whitley Bay (Nigel Maggs completed Parkrun #150).
BRJ’ers made Club Debuts at Gateshead (Simon Moore & Caroline Tiller with a 59 Club PB), Poolbeg, Ireland (Richard Stevens) & Richmond Olympic Vancouver, Canada (Anna & Clive Best).
At Huntingdon, Keelan Duffy took the Runner-Up spot, David Spurle made his Club 5K Debut & Warren Monk made his first appearance at a Parkrun since November 2019.
Sandy 10M
Several BRJ’ers successfully completed the event, however gremlins affected the Chip Timing System thus the results are currently available. To rectify this situation, the Race Organisers are currently undertaking a manual “Root & Branch “review of the finish positions / times & they will be released in due course. Watch this space. The organisers have announced that the 2023 event will revert back to its usual April slot (Date TBC).
Great North Run 1/2 Marathon
To the great relief of the 12 BRJ members that had secured a ballot place, & some former club members running as part of a composite Marie Curie charity team, the event was given “permission” to go ahead on the Friday afternoon. The runners would have also welcomed the fact that the 2022 course returned back to its historic route, with its 450 feet of ascent, out to the seafront at South Shields rather then the out & back “COVID” course used in 2021. Sadly, the Red Arrows Aerobatic team were unable to perform.
William Dales, in his debut GNR alongside Paul Treadwell, Kate Ruddock & Ian Wilson, led home the BRJ’ers in a speedy run that earned him a 1 minute Club PB. Sue Yendley, supporting Kate Ruddock in her own charity run, was our lead Woman.
Melanie Gearing, also running for charity, successfully completed a personal challenge to complete 50 1/2 Marathon’s. The complete club results were:-
