Essex Marathon – Guy Forster becomes the first BRJ’er to successfully complete a full marathon in 2021. The 6 lap Marathon course was based at the site of Carver Army Barracks (Saffron Walden) which until 1974 was known as RAF Debden, or US Air Station 356 when the US Army Air Force (US AAF) operated from the airfield between 1942-1945. To reflect the losses suffered by the pilots that flew combat missions from this base, the course layout was cleverly designed to reflect the outline of a WW2 fighter aircraft. Guy had a great run just failing by 18 seconds to better his club marathon PB that he set at Abingdon in October 2019.
For the 1/2 Marathon no results were spotted for BRJ’ers (as there was no club names shown in the results) although I did spot 2 former BRJ members, namely, David Hudson in 3rd position (now running for Hunts AC) & Neil Jarvis (Now with Cambridge & Coleridge).
Oundle Spring 10K – All 3 BRJ’ers put in excellent performances in good weather conditions. The squad was led home by Frank Holmes who secured top place in his age category,
Frank was closely followed by Felicity Baillie, who ran her socks off to take the 3rd place Bronze medal in the Women’s event. Her time represented a significant 3 minute 30 Second improvement to the time she set at Bedford in September 2019. This PB places her 4th fastest BRJ Women over the 10k distance. Felicity also secured the runner-up position in her age category. Finally, John Spencer-Neill made his club 10k debut.
Jubilee Park Junior 2k Parkrun – Christopher Scott was the sole BRJ participant securing the runner-up position.
