Each year the event grows, not just in number of competitors wading into the river as they start the 1.9km river swim, but by what we have to lay on for everyone! We’ve increased the number of trade stands this year and streamlined the course in accordance with competitor feedback. Spectators have a great view of transition as the athletes exit the river swim having been cheered on through the centre of Ely as they pass the local marina and parks. The 83km bike course with draftbusters and the 21km run, finishing in the centre of Ely.

The Olympic distance triathlon used the same routes as the Monster Middle, only half the distance. Perfect for those wishing to do their first open water swim! The Olympic Triathlon was also popular with Monster Racers and SOLD OUT!

And what a great atmosphere! There’s music, a hog roast, camping and we hope to secure a RAF Flypast as we did for 2012!

As one of the first to bring middle distance events to the Eastern region, the Monster Racing course has been dubbed as `iconic’ by many of the elite athletes who raced both the inaugural and second year. The course is set in the stunning backdrop of Ely and its glorious Cathedral. Guarded by the majestic Ely Cathedral, the River Ouse provided the perfect setting for the swim leg and then out into the open flatlands of the Fens on the bike and run, with unrivalled scenery.
