Spring Marathons and Sandy10

After a long winter’s training the first major city marathon of the Spring season was held in Manchester on Sunday. The weather was dry with little wind. This was ideal for runners.

Six BRJ members travelled north to compete in the Greater Manchester Marathon.

Rob Farrant led the group home in a very good time of 3 hours 9 minutes and 59 seconds, followed be fellow runners a few minutes behind, Neil Jarvis 3 hours 13 minutes 12 seconds and Neil Pope 3 hours 15 minutes 31 seconds.  Ian Shipley completed the 26 miles in 3 hours 43 minutes 15 seconds.  Sarah Watts 3 hours 54 minutes 33 seconds with Janine Clark, close behind in  3hours 56 minutes 20 seconds, both delighted to get well under the 4-hour mark. Dan Ainscow finished in 4 hours 25 minutes 20 seconds.

Further afield Guy Foster joined 55,000 runners in the Paris Marathon finishing in 3.53.48.

Paulus and Karen Maukonen completed the Bungay Black Dog Half Marathon in 1 hour 49 minutes 25 seconds and 1 hour 57minutes and 7 seconds respectively.

BRJ was well represented at the popular local 10-mile race in Sandy. The Sandy 10 features challenging hills in the early stages which are very helpful to returning runners going downhill towards the finish.  Although the light rain persisted throughout the race the cool conditions were perfect for running.
