Chris PBs at First Weymouth Ironman 70.3
On the 11th September, BRJ member Chris Rawlings took part in the first Weymouth Ironman branded 70.3 triathlon. There have been Ironman distance triathlons in the area before, however, this was the first year the Ironman franchise was running the event.
70.3 represents the total distance of the race in miles (113.0 km), consisting of a 1.2 mile (1.9 km) swim, a 56 mile (90 km) bike ride, and a 13.1 mile (21.1 km) run. This distance is also known as half ironman as it is half the distance of a full ironman.
The format was a sea swim in the English Chanel followed by an anti-clockwise bike loop through the rolling Dorset Countryside finishing with a run along Weymouth's esplanade. Chris finished in 5 hours 42 minutes 22 seconds with a swim time of 36 minutes 42 seconds, a bike time of 3 hours 10 minutes and a run time of 1 hour 44 minutes 45 seconds. This is a personal best for Chris on his previous time of 5 hours 54 minutes set at the Ironman 70.3 in Budapest in 2016 (a much easier bike and swim course!)
